What is Spiritual Direction?
Spiritual Direction is a practice of discerning God’s movement in a person’s life through prayer and holy listening.

Profile of a Spiritual Director
The Anglican Diocese of Pittsburgh maintains a list of spiritual directors and discipleship mentors for the use of the diocese. The following is expected of anyone on the list:
Spiritual Maturity
- Demonstrated spiritual maturity in their life and relationships
- Known to be a person of prayer
- Worshipping regularly in a church community
- Recognized by their community as a person of integrity and spiritual wisdom
Demonstrated Aptitude / Skill
- Able to articulate what approach / model of spiritual direction they use
- Known to be a good listener
Training
- Training may be formal or informal. A long apprenticeship may serve equally well as a formal program
Communication
- Has a written statement they give to directees and the diocese describing who they are, their background, and their approach to spiritual direction
- Provides the diocese with a current phone number, address, email address and lets us know when it changes
