Invitation from Bishop Hobby

Dear Partners in Gospel Ministry,

Of all the things I have done as a bishop this last year, among the most satisfying has been spending time with you together in the Word and in prayer. So, I’m very much looking forward to being together at the Clergy Retreat (September 19-21 at Antiochian Village). It has been planned to provide time with God, time with each other and time in the Word.

Our retreat speaker this year will be the Apostle Paul through his letter to the Church in Philippi. We will walk through the letter together looking for a deeper understanding of what it means to follow Christ and to serve His people. Please take some time to read through Philippians several times between now and September 19th.

Paul Cooper, Shari Hobby, and Jonathan Millard, along with Diocesan Staff, have worked hard to plan an event that will be refreshing and encouraging. They have sought to find a balance between input, reflection, prayer, worship, relaxation, and social time. My prayer is that our time together will be invigorating on many levels.

The schedule for the retreat is below. You can see that it has been simplified and that you have some options for making your time away most effectively meet your needs.

If you need financial help, you can contact me in writing (for auditing purposes), and I can help. While you may not use your discretionary funds to cover your own retreat costs, you may be able to claim all or part of your costs as continuing education or business expenses. You may, of course, use your discretionary funds to give financial assistance to enable a fellow priest or deacon to attend.  Please indicate on the check whose registration will be covered, or let me know you can help and I will make the connection.

You may register online here, or submit the attached registration form with a check made payable to “The Anglican Diocese of Pittsburgh.” Registration closes September 7th.

I am very much looking forward to being with you.

With you in Gospel ministry,

Bishop Jim Hobby
