Renewal of Vows and Easter Vigil Registration
25th February, A.D. 2015
Second Wednesday in Lent
TO THE CLERGY OF THE DIOCESE:
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Lent has only just begun, but we plan for its end. From winter we look toward spring.
RENEWAL OF VOWS
Our annual liturgy for the clergy of Southwestern Pennsylvania – and others who can come to join us – is to be held at St. Martin’s, Monroeville at 10 am on Tuesday, March 31st, the Tuesday of Holy Week. St. Martin’s meets in Bethel Presbyterian Church on Beatty Road, very near the old St. Martin’s facility. Vesting will take place at 9:30 am. The color is white. A light lunch will follow the liturgy. We will use our accustomed system of electronic reservations, also including reservations for any you intend to bring with you. (Please complete the online registration – even if you are unable to attend.)
We share a very special fellowship as a clergy in this Diocese. Lent is especially a season for growing closer to Our Lord, but we invariably grow closer to one another as we grow closer to Him. Let us remember one another as we move through these days of Lent, and let us give thanks for what we have together by God’s grace. Then in Holy Week let us gather to thank God for the inestimable gift of His Son and for His ministry entrusted to us, and to recommit to the call God has made on us both individually and corporately.
For those of you who live away from Southwestern Pennsylvania, you may be able to join in the Chrism Mass of another Anglican Diocese, where I know you would be welcome. In any case let us all hold up one another in prayer.
This year I will keep the Easter Vigil at Grace Church, Edgeworth, at 8 pm on Saturday, April 4th. There will be vigils in many congregations across the Diocese. But for those where there is not a vigil, the invitation is to join the Bishop and many others at Edgeworth. There may be baptisms and confirmations, as are especially appropriate at Easter. The custom is that individuals who have been prepared in their local congregations may be scheduled by their parish priest for inclusion at the diocesan vigil if desired. (Contact the Diocesan Office.)
An After-Vigil Gathering for Undergraduates and Twenty-Somethings has also become a part of this first celebration of Easter in our Diocese. Hosting this gathering for those younger-in-their-Faith is a particular joy for me as bishop. The after-party will take place at a nearby pub. Please spread the word. (For those who can reserve in advance, please complete this online form.)
May God grant us all a wonderful Easter following this season that begins with ashes and concludes with a cross.
Faithfully in Christ,
Bishop, Anglican Diocese of Pittsburgh
