Changes in Child Abuse Reporting & Clearance Requirements
Please pay careful attention to the attached memorandum. It is extremely important. Recent changes in the Pennsylvania statutes and regulations concerning child abuse change the requirements for reporting as well as background checks and clearances. All those who are in regular contact with children as a result of the ministry of the church are expected to comply with these regulations. The Anglican Diocese of Pittsburgh expects all those in leadership of congregations and ministries to be aware of the legal requirements now in place in Pennsylvania and to be responsible to see that steps are taken to see that they are met.
The Pennsylvania State Police Criminal History Record Information Report and the Child Abuse History Clearance each have a cost of $10. Generally speaking we would ask volunteers to cover these fees personally while it would be the obligation of the congregation to pay these amounts for its employees.
The Diocesan office is available to assist and, as noted in the memorandum, revisions to the Diocesan publication “Policies Regarding Allegations and Incidents of Sexual Misconduct and Child Abuse by Clergy, Employees and Volunteers in the Anglican Diocese of Pittsburgh” are being made and will be available on the Diocesan web site under the Documents & Resources tab shortly. In addition the online resources noted in the memorandum will be of value.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
